Helping Texans find the best electricity plan

Texas has one of the most competitive electricity markets in the world — over 800 plans across 5 service areas. We built Texas Energy Compare to cut through the noise and show you the real numbers, updated every day.

How it works

Official source

Every plan is pulled daily from the PUCT Power to Choose API — the same database Texas regulators use. No scraping, no guesswork.

AI normalization

Raw API data is inconsistent. We use Claude AI to normalize every plan into a clean, comparable schema — extracting true rates from EFL PDFs where available.

True rate display

We show rates at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh so you can compare at your actual usage level, not a provider's best-case scenario.

Why we built this

Navigating the Texas electricity market is genuinely confusing. Providers advertise misleading rates, fine-print bill credits obscure the real cost, and comparison sites often only show plans they have affiliate deals with.

Texas Energy Compare was built to be different: every plan in the official PUCT database appears here, rates are normalized from source documents, and the site is free with no account required. Our goal is to be the most accurate and complete electricity comparison tool in Texas.
